OLYMPIAN SET TO OPEN AEPG GREAT EASTERN RUN

Olympic Gold medallist Sir Jason Kenny will be in Peterborough this weekend to officially open the AEPG Great Eastern Run

Race sponsor Persimmon Homes East Midlands have announced the appearance by Britain’s most successful Olympian ahead of race day this weekend.

The developer is an official partner of Team GB and is working with athletes past and present to promote the forthcoming Paris 2024 games.

Sir Jason will officially start the race at 10.30am on Sunday, October 15 before joining runners on the course.

The track cyclist has recently started running and this will be his first ever half marathon course, and he will be joined by several members of the Persimmon Homes East Midlands team.

Ben Smith, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Midlands, is among the team of runners taking on the full 13-mile course while others are doing the associated Annas Hope 5km race.

Ben said: “The Great Eastern Run is an institution here in Peterborough, and one that everyone as delighted to see return last year. We are proud to be a sponsor of this year’s race and be a part of this key community event.

“As a sponsor of the Great Eastern Run and partner of Team GB, we at Persimmon want to create a positive legacy and celebrate active lifestyles. We are pleased Sir Jason Kenny was able to accept our invitation and will be able to help us spread that message further.”

Aaron Murrell, Director of Good Running Events, said: “We are delighted that Sir Jason Kenny will be joining us to start the Great Eastern Run, along with the Mayor of Peterborough.
